Important: Severe withdrawal can be dangerous. Anyone experiencing a medical emergency, seizures, confusion, chest pain, difficulty breathing, hallucinations, loss of consciousness, or other severe symptoms should call 911 or go to the nearest emergency department. DMHIOP provides outpatient assistance and does not replace hospital-based or inpatient detoxification when a higher level of care is needed.

A safer first step

What Is Medical Detox Assistance?

Medical detox assistance is short-term clinical support designed to help eligible clients begin recovery while managing withdrawal symptoms and preparing for continued treatment.

At Desert Mountain Healing IOP, the process begins with an individualized assessment. Our team reviews substance use history, current symptoms, medical needs, available support, and safety concerns to determine whether outpatient care is appropriate.

  • Medical evaluation and individualized planning
  • Medication support when clinically appropriate
  • Ongoing symptom and progress monitoring
  • Coordination with counseling, MAT, IOP, and case management
  • Referral to a higher level of care when necessary

Founded on compassion

Treatment Built on Dignity, Not Judgment

Desert Mountain Healing IOP was founded by Sean Roberts and Gary Gamboa because they believed addiction treatment could be delivered with greater compassion, integrity, accountability, and hope.

After experiencing recovery firsthand, they recognized that lasting recovery requires more than simply treating addiction. It requires hope, accountability, evidence-based care, and a treatment team that truly sees the person behind the diagnosis.

That belief became the foundation of Desert Mountain Healing IOP.

Whether someone is seeking help for the first time or returning after a relapse, they will be welcomed without judgment and supported every step of the way. Recovery begins with hope, grows through connection, and succeeds through compassionate care.

You Are Not Alone

Withdrawal can be physically and emotionally difficult. Our team understands the courage it takes to ask for help, and we are here to provide medical support, encouragement, and a clear path forward.

Detox assistance is not about "getting clean and moving on." It's about beginning a recovery process that addresses the whole person—medical needs, emotional health, practical barriers, and long-term stability.

Recovery is possible, and you do not have to do this alone.

Safety comes first

Outpatient Care Is Not Appropriate for Everyone

Some withdrawal situations require hospital-based or inpatient detoxification. During the assessment, we look carefully at medical risks, withdrawal severity, substance use patterns, living environment, available support, and the ability to attend follow-up appointments.

When a higher level of care is indicated, we help guide the client toward an appropriate medical setting rather than attempting to manage unsafe withdrawal in an outpatient program.

A higher level of care may be needed when there is:

  • Severe or rapidly worsening withdrawal symptoms
  • A history of complicated withdrawal or seizures
  • Serious medical or psychiatric instability
  • Confusion, hallucinations, or loss of consciousness
  • An unsafe or unsupported home environment
  • Any condition requiring around-the-clock medical monitoring

Common questions

Medical Detox Assistance FAQ

Every situation is different. An individual assessment is the best way to determine the appropriate next step.

Is this an inpatient detox program?

No. Desert Mountain Healing IOP provides outpatient medical detox assistance for clients who are clinically appropriate for outpatient care. People who need around-the-clock monitoring or hospital-level treatment will be referred to a higher level of care.

Will medication be prescribed?

Medication may be used when clinically appropriate after medical evaluation. The specific medication, dose, duration, and monitoring plan depend on the client's individual needs.

Can I begin counseling or IOP during this process?

Yes. When appropriate, counseling, case management, MAT, and structured outpatient services can begin as part of a coordinated treatment plan.

How do I know whether outpatient detox assistance is safe for me?

A medical and clinical assessment is needed. Our team reviews current symptoms, medical history, substance use pattern, prior withdrawal experiences, available support, and other risk factors.

Does insurance cover medical detox assistance?

Coverage varies by plan, authorization requirements, deductibles, copayments, and medical necessity criteria. Our team can verify available benefits before services begin.

What if I've tried detox before and relapsed?

Relapse is a common part of recovery for many people. You will be welcomed back without judgment. Our team will help you understand what happened, strengthen your recovery plan, and connect you with appropriate ongoing support.
